RIP Amy Winehouse September 14, 1983 – July 23, 2011

The BBC reports that British singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her home in London. She was 27 years old. The cause of death has not yet been reported. TMZ reports that there were "no signs of foul play."

Pitchfork's Jess Harvell takes a look back at the singer's music and tragic final days here.

Winehouse released her first album, Frank, in 2003, when she was 20 years old. She quickly gained attention for her deep, bluesy voice and sexually charged lyrics. Her 2006 album Back to Black gained her worldwide fame, spawning the hits "Rehab", "You Know I'm No Good", and the title track. She won five Grammy awards and the album sold 10 million copies.

Winehouse's musical triumphs were often eclipsed in the eyes of the media by her struggles with substance abuse. She was arrested several times for assault and drug offenses. In June, her comeback tour was canceled after a disastrous performance in Serbia.

Her final public appearance occurred on Wednesday at the Roundhouse in London, where she guested with her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield. Winehouse was reportedly at work on a new album.
